Varsity Boys Soccer: HF-L Cougars (15-3-1) Defeats Pittsford-Sutherland Knights (12-5-2)

The Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars (Class A) beat the Pittsford-Sutherland Knights (Class A) for the third time this season and for the Section V Class A2 Sectional Championship. The two played at Spencerport High School on a rainy and cold Halloween Night. Late in the first half the Knights struck first taking the 1-0 lead, and the score stayed that way at halftime. It didn’t take long for the Cougars to answer in the second half, when Junior Jake Converse scored on a header. Both teams were tied at 1 following regulation, so the game went into overtime. Less than seven minutes had passed in the first overtime period, when Junior Alex Ptucha scored on a penalty kick. The golden goal gave the Cougars a 2-1 victory over the Knights, and their first sectional title since 2008. Senior Alec Delmerico was named MVP and Senior Garrett O’Mara was named impact player. The Cougars will take on Greece Athena in the Class A State Qualifier on Tuesday (11/11). Great Job Boys!
